Your Invention Is Our Priority

Patent law is the practice area of intellectual property law that deals with new inventions. Traditional patents protect tangible scientific inventions, such as circuit boards, car engines, heating coils, or zippers. However, over time patents have been used to protect a broader variety of inventions such as coding algorithms, business practices, or genetically modified organisms.

Verna Law, P.C. has its main office in Rye, New York, in the shadow of New York City, the Hudson Valley, and the Stamford technology corridor.

Our office is a 10-minute walk from the Rye Train Station. The Rye train station provides commuter rail service to Grand Central Terminal in New York City or Stamford and New Haven-Union Station via the Metro-North Railroad’s New Haven Line.

Let the team at Verna Law help you protect your inventions and patents from applications to licenses to litigation.

Patent Applications

Navigating the patent application process is a crucial step in safeguarding your invention from unauthorized copying and selling. Wondering how to apply for a patent and what’s involved? Let Verna Law’s experienced patent law team guide you through the entire application journey from patent preparation to patent searching to the applications and beyond.

There are two primary types of patent applications. The first is a provisional patent application, offering a cost-effective option that lasts for one year. It allows you to claim “patent pending” status while actively building, marketing, and selling your invention. On the other hand, the non-provisional application for a utility patent is a comprehensive submission reviewed by the US Patent and Trademark Office. Although it takes longer to review and is relatively more expensive, if approved, it provides protection for a substantial period—typically 17 years for the new patent. A design patent protects the shape of products.

Our dedicated team will collaborate with you to determine the most suitable type of patent application (utility, design, or plant) based on your invention. We’ll also assist in formulating a strategic approach to the patent process, whether your focus is international or limited to the US market. From filing your application to navigating all the necessary steps in between, we’re committed to simplifying the patent application process for you. Ready to secure your invention with a patent?
